Oily skin usually gives up on sunscreen for one reason: it feels greasy by noon in Indian heat and humidity. The best sunscreen for you is the one you will actually apply every day, in the right amount. So these six are grouped by the texture and finish you want, rather than ranked. For the basics of filters and ratings, see how to choose a sunscreen in India.
Most owner feedback

- SPF / PA
- SPF 50, PA+++, as listed
- Texture
- Aqua gel
- Sizes
- 30 g, 50 g, 80 g
- Evidence
- About 188,448 Nykaa ratings
If you just want a place to start, this gel has far more ratings than anything else here, and it is listed for normal to oily skin. Try the 30 g size first to see how your skin takes it.
What we like
- By far the most owner feedback here: about 188,448 Nykaa ratings, averaging 4.4
- Listed for normal to oily skin, as a gel
- Three sizes, so you can try the small one first
Watch out for
- PA+++ rather than the PA++++ on some picks here
- Sold on hydration with hyaluronic acid, not on a matte finish
- Ratings come from owners with all skin types, not only oily skin
Most matte finish
Re'equil Ultra Matte Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 50 PA++++
- SPF / PA
- SPF 50, PA++++, as listed
- Texture
- Silicone-based dry-touch gel
- Filters
- Includes zinc oxide and titanium dioxide
- Evidence
- About 63,338 Nykaa ratings
If shine bothers you most, look here first. It is a silicone-based gel listed with a velvety dry touch. It costs more, and if you have deeper skin, check for white cast before you commit to the bigger pack.
What we like
- Listed with a velvety dry-touch finish, the closest match here to a matte look
- Joint-highest rating among our picks: about 63,338 Nykaa ratings, averaging 4.4
- The listing says water and sweat resistant, which suits humid days
Watch out for
- The most expensive pick here at 50 g
- A silicone-based feel will not suit everyone
- The listing says no white cast, but it contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, so check on deeper skin tones
Gel with newer filters
Deconstruct Gel Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA+++
- SPF / PA
- SPF 50+, PA+++, as listed
- Texture
- Lightweight gel
- Filters
- Lists DHHB, EHT and MBBT
- Evidence
- About 73,153 Nykaa ratings
This names newer, photostable filters in its key ingredients and is sold as a lightweight, non-greasy gel. Look at it if you read ingredient lists and don’t mind PA+++ rather than PA++++.
What we like
- Plenty of owner feedback: about 73,153 Nykaa ratings, averaging 4.3
- Names newer, photostable filters in its key ingredients
- Listed as lightweight and non-greasy, with no white cast
Watch out for
- PA+++ rather than PA++++
- The texture claims come from the brand, and we have not worn it
- A 50 g pack goes quickly if you apply the full amount every day
Thin fluid
WishCare Niacinamide Oil Balance Fluid Sunscreen SPF 50 PA++++
- SPF / PA
- SPF 50, PA++++, as listed
- Texture
- Semi-matte fluid
- Key ingredients
- Niacinamide, zinc PCA, cica, ceramides
- Evidence
- About 45,077 Nykaa ratings
If gels still feel heavy, a fluid may suit you better. This one is aimed squarely at oily skin and listed as semi-matte. The 30 ml pack won’t last long at the full daily amount, so compare the cost per ml.
What we like
- A fluid texture, listed as ultra-light and semi-matte
- Aimed specifically at oily skin
- Strong feedback: about 45,077 Nykaa ratings, averaging 4.3
Watch out for
- A 30 ml pack is small, so compare the cost per ml
- The listing we checked names key ingredients only, not the UV filters
- "Without clogging pores" is the brand's claim, and skin varies
Oily and acne-prone
Dot & Key Cica + Niacinamide Mattifying Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA++++
- SPF / PA
- SPF 50+, PA++++, as listed
- Texture
- Light gel cream, mattifying
- Key ingredients
- Cica, niacinamide
- Evidence
- About 35,390 Nykaa ratings
This is listed for oily, acne-prone and sensitive skin, with cica and niacinamide. Read the ingredient list and patch test it first, especially if your skin reacts easily. Our guide to sunscreen for acne-prone skin explains what else to look for.
What we like
- Listed for oily, acne-prone and sensitive skin
- The brand says it is non-comedogenic and fragrance-free
- Good feedback: about 35,390 Nykaa ratings, averaging 4.3
Watch out for
- The ingredient list on Nykaa includes benzophenone-3 (oxybenzone), which some sensitive skin reacts to, so read the pack and patch test
- Fewer ratings than the other picks here
- "Fades dark spots" is the brand's claim, not something we have checked
Lowest starting price
Plum 2% Niacinamide & Rice Water Sunscreen SPF 50
- SPF / PA
- SPF 50; PA++++ on Plum's store, PA+++ on Nykaa
- Key ingredients
- 2% niacinamide, rice water
- Sizes
- 30 g, 50 g, 80 g
- Evidence
- About 72,052 Nykaa ratings
This is a low-cost way to build the daily habit, with a small pack to try first. It is listed for oily to dry skin, so don’t expect a fully matte finish. Check the PA rating on your pack, because the two stores list it differently.
What we like
- The lowest starting price here, with a small 30 g pack to try
- Plenty of owner feedback: about 72,052 Nykaa ratings, averaging 4.3
- The brand says non-comedogenic, with about 4 hours of water resistance
Watch out for
- Nykaa lists PA+++ and Plum's store lists PA++++, so check the pack you receive
- Listed for oily to dry skin, so it is not specifically mattifying
- Prices and sizes differ between the two stores
How to choose between them
| If you want… | Look at |
|---|---|
| A popular gel to start with | The Derma Co Aqua Gel |
| As little shine as possible | Re’equil Ultra Matte |
| A light gel with newer filters | Deconstruct Gel |
| The thinnest texture | WishCare Fluid |
| A choice for oily, acne-prone skin | Dot & Key Cica + Niacinamide |
| The lowest starting price | Plum 2% Niacinamide |
Before you buy any of them, and after:
- Try the smallest size. Texture is personal, and this is the cheapest way to find out.
- Patch test first. Our patch test guide shows how. Stop if your skin reacts, and see a doctor if the reaction is severe.
- Check for white cast. If you have deeper skin, try it in daylight. See our guide to white cast on deeper skin.
- Reapply when you are outdoors. No sunscreen blocks everything, so also use shade, hats and other sun protection. We also explain reapplying over makeup.
See a dermatologist if you have severe, painful or scarring acne, or if a mark or mole changes.
Bottom line
To start simply, try The Derma Co Aqua Gel. If shine is your main problem, look at Re’equil Ultra Matte. Choose Deconstruct for newer filters, WishCare for a thin fluid, Dot & Key if you also get acne, and Plum to spend the least up front. Whichever you pick, apply enough of it every day.
How we chose
We have not worn these sunscreens ourselves, and we did not test their SPF. We compared listings at Nykaa, Plum and Dot & Key in November 2026 by finish, SPF and PA, listed ingredients, price and owner ratings. Texture, water resistance and in-vivo claims come from the brands. Ratings come from owners with all skin types and may cover several sizes. Commission does not decide the choices: we earn when you buy through these links, and stores pay us different rates. Listings can change, so check the pack before you buy. Frequently asked questions
Can sunscreen cause acne?
Some formulas can clog pores or irritate skin, though skin varies a lot and a label such as non-comedogenic is not a guarantee. Try one new sunscreen at a time and patch test it first. See a dermatologist if you have severe, painful or scarring acne.
Do these sunscreens leave a white cast?
Several are listed with little or no white cast, but those are brand claims and we have not checked them on different skin tones. Formulas with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are more likely to show on deeper skin, so try a small size first if you can.
Is PA++++ needed, or is PA+++ enough?
PA++++ is the higher UVA rating, which matters more if you spend long hours outdoors or are prone to pigmentation. For many people, a PA+++ sunscreen they will happily apply every day in the right amount is still a sensible choice.
Did you test these sunscreens?
No. These picks come from research into listings, ingredients, prices and owner ratings. We say so plainly so you can weigh our advice, and we will update this page if that changes.
